But in a Trust-building process in which the parties are trying to work towards a new state that satisfies everyone (what the theoreticians call a positive-sum game), simply wanting this is not enough; there is still work to be done to overturn the system and habits that restrict the players’ good intentions. The role of ‘third-party guarantor’, who takes responsibility for never letting the system or established practice take the upper hand, and prevent the player’s good intentions from waning, is paramount.
